Nigel Jones (FCA), Director

Nigel trained with three-partner firm in York before moving to Binder Hamlyn in Leeds in 1982 where he gained experience working with SMEs. He left in 1984 to join a two-partner firm where experience was gained working on advising clients on running their businesses and in dealing with tax investigations.

Nigel set up Jones & Co on 1 October 1985, on a part-time basis before taking the plunge to become a full-time practice on 29 February 1988. The business specialised in the start-up market for a number of years before branching out to encompass established SMEs as well. Some clients have been with the firm since the outset and have grown with the firm.

Over the years Nigel has built up a number of contacts, which enables Jones & Co to provide a wide range of services not normally associated with a firm of our size.

Nigel has experience of a varied range of businesses, with a large number of our clients in the service sector. A lot of clients began as start-ups and have grown into thriving small companies. Advice has been given on business and tax planning for these businesses.

Nigel uses a number of accounting packages, including Sage and VT. In addition the practice has tax, payroll, accounting, and practice management software for its own use.

In his spare time Nigel is a keen follower of Yorkshire County Cricket Club and can often be found at Headingley, watching Yorkshire play. Also he is a keen golfer and is a member and Treasurer of Pike Hills Golf Club as well as being the Treasurer of the York Railway Institute.

Jonathan Smith (ACCA)

Jonathan joined us in March 2012. He is a graduate of Newcastle University with a degree in Accounting and Finance. During a period of self-employment, Jonathan became a fully qualified Chartered Certified Accountant in January 2012, after having developed his accountancy skills during four years with small practices in the Teesside area. In his spare time Jonathan likes the occasional game of golf and five-a-side football match.

Adam Edwards

Adam joined our team in April 2017 whilst he was studying his AAT Level 2. Alongside helping in the preparation of accounts here at the office, he continues his studies towards an AAT qualifications and aspires to further his studies upon completion.

Adam is a keen sports fan, and during his free time he plays and assists the committee of a local American Football team, The Leeds Bobcats.
